Platinum-selling Singer/Songwriter Kipper Jones Opens Black History Month Atlanta With Performance
"Respect Yourself: The Music of a Movement" happens at City Winery Atlanta to commemorate Black History Month festivities.
ATLANTA - Jan. 3, 2018 - Platinum-selling Singer/Songwriter Kipper Jones will lead a cast a stellar musicians through a premier Atlanta performance of Respect Yourself: The Music of a Movement on Thursday, February 1, 2018 to open Atlanta's Black History Month commemoration.
The performance, presented by City Winery Atlanta and Entertainment Connections, will celebrate the musical contributions of African-Americans during the peak years of the Civil Rights Movement. The evening will feature an honor to Georgia Congressman John Lewis. Remarks will be provided by Honorary Guest Speaker Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson.
According to Jones, "Congressman Lewis is a hero to me. His journey has been one I both admire and revere, not to mention I feel as though we as a people would not have some of the rights and privileges we have now if it weren't for his personal sacrifices. Now that I live in the Atlanta area, it is my honor to show appreciation to Congressman Lewis through song."
The setlist includes classic compositions like "Strange Fruit," "A Change Is Gonna Come" and "Say It Loud (I'm Black and I'm Proud)."
In addition to penning hits for Brandy, Vanessa Williams and Kenny Lattimore, Jones co-wrote "Man With Nothing To Lose" by Geno Young (https://vimeo.com/16567431). The song was rated one of the Top 50 Socially Relevant Songs of the New Millennium by Soul Tracks. This performance continues Kipper's "artivism" journey following his 2017 release "Ashes To Ashes…."
